Join an evening talk with acclaimed author Ian McGuire as he discusses his latest book, The Abstainer.

Ian will be reading from his much lauded new novel, an historical thriller extending the great storytelling tradition of 19th century Dickens and mashing it with “the vividness and economy of a contemporary screenplay such as The Wire” (from the review in The Guardian, 2020).

Ian McGuire

Ian is the author of various works of fiction, most recently the well-celebrated novels: The North Water (Booker longlisted, 2016), and The Abstainer (2020). He has been teaching at The University of Manchester since 1996. In 2007 he co-founded The Centre for New Writing, where he was co-director of the Centre until 2016. He is currently Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing.
