The UK & Ireland Regional Student Chapter of the Society for Marine Mammalogy was established in 2006 with the aim of bringing together students who are interested in and study marine mammals from all across the UK & Ireland.

The number of students studying marine mammals in UK & Irish institutions has grown in recent years, so the purpose of the chapter is to strengthen links between UK and Ireland based marine mammal students, through exchange of ideas and research discussion.

The chapter's annual postgraduate conference is open to all UK and Ireland postgraduate (masters and PhD) students and in 2017 is held at Plymouth University's Marine Station. The event includes talks from invited speakers and workshops and an opportunity for attendees to discuss their research projects and to network. There is also an icebreaker on the evening of the 18th.

The call for abstracts closes on 4 January 2017 and registration to attend closes on 11 January.

There are a limited number of places for undergraduates completing an honours thesis on marine mammals, so please contact ukrsc@st-andrews.ac.uk if you are interested in attending.

Please visit the conference webpage for further information and the latest updates.
