This international conference organised by the Occupational Therapy programme team at Plymouth University is an opportunity to be part of a forum for new ideas, with discussion that promotes and informs excellence in occupational therapy.

The conference will drive the agenda in occupational therapy on the following key themes:

  • Proactive advancement of professional identity and occupational therapy
  • Skilled and effective marketing of occupational therapy to service providers and service users 
  • Entrepreneurship and innovations in occupational therapy  where business decisions determine services provided

A programme of keynote presentations, verbal papers, workshops and posters will explore how to promote our profession to those who use occupational therapy or make strategic decisions about our services.

Keynote speakers

Karen Jacobs, past President of the American Occupational Therapy Association, will share her expertise in marketing which she honed in a competitive commercial market place. She is highly regarded in the USA for using marketing tools successfully to promote occupational therapy to diverse audiences.

Annie Turner, Casson Memorial Lecturer, will challenge with a thought provoking review of professional identity and what this means for the profession as it moves into the future.

Julia Scott, Chief Executive of our professional body, will envision how the unique contribution of occupational therapists meets the big agendas facing people working in health and social care and beyond.

Suzanne Rastrick, an occupational therapist who has become the most senior therapist working in the UK today, will explore the entrepreneurial skills needed to thrive in the commissioning process.
