Science and Technology Showcase 2018

What is the Science and Technology Showcase?

The aim of the Science and Technology Showcase is to raise students’ aspirations in science and technology subjects and demonstrate how exciting STEM can be at A level and in higher education.

As well as having some fun, this is a unique opportunity for students to talk with current undergraduate students, PhD students and academics about what it’s like to study and work in STEM.

What makes this event unique is the collaborative spirit, combining resource from the Children’s University, City College Plymouth STEM Centre, Royal Society of Chemistry, University of Plymouth, academics and current students.

The 2018 Science and Technology Showcase took place on 24 and 25 January 2018.

Over two days, we took over our on-campus marquee and filled it with interactive exhibits from across our Faculty of Science and Engineering. Students moved freely between stands, spending time at the exhibits that were of interest to them. Exhibits ranged from Segways to computer game technology, oculus rift to marine wildlife, chemistry experiments to healthcare sciences, with something for everyone and plenty of opportunity for students to get hands on.

We offered a behind the scenes campus tour, for secondary schools and colleges, in addition to the marquee activities. The 45 minute tour provided students with an insight into our science-specific laboratories, our unique LabPlus as well as the opportunity to see some of the science-based equipment the University has to offer.
