Michael Everard Shipping Scholarship


Michael Everard grew up in the family shipping company, F.T. Everard & Sons, taking on the responsibility as Chairman between 1988 and 2006. During his period of Chairmanship, the company moved from being predominantly an operator of small bulk carriers to a small tanker company operating very sophisticated and environmentally friendly ships.

Michael Everard has undertaken many tasks within the international shipping industry, including the Presidencies of the UK Chamber of Shipping, the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology. He has also held the position as Vice Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping.

The Michael Everard Shipping Scholarship is a newly established fund set up in 2014, aiming to encourage young people (under 25 years old) into the maritime areas of study. The successful student will be awarded £3,125 and should be an undergraduate student studying either the BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Maritime Law or BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Logistics.


To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you should fit the following criteria:

  • Under 25 years of age.
  • You are applying to either the BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Maritime Law or BSc (Hons) Maritime Business and Logistics course.
  • Only pupils who have been a resident for more than five years in the UK (or Northern Ireland) will be considered.  
  • The scholarship will be paid for the first year of study only, to encourage youngsters into the maritime areas of study.
