Key features

This masters-level module will provide you with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to undertake and lead critical care retrieval and transfers. 

You will also learn to critically analyse the special situations that may require alternative or additional application of understanding and abilities.

You will develop comprehensive knowledge and skills in key aspects of critical care retrieval and transfer in special situations. 

The module will enable you to exhibit model leadership and communication skills when performing in routine as well as challenging or difficult situations involving critical care.

Course details

 On successful completion of this module you will be able to: 
  • confidently perform effective critical care retrieval and transfers, covering a range of patients from birth to the older adult lifespan
  • critically evaluate the competencies and components required for a safe, efficient and collaborative retrieval or transfer
  • appraise the modifications required for critical care delivery within hazardous areas and disaster management
  • demonstrate exemplary communication and leadership qualities when working within a multidisciplinary environment.
Assessment
The assessment for this module is in two parts: 
1. a 2000 word assignment that critically evaluates effective critical care management of a patient condition from a hazardous situation
2. a formal practical examination (OSCE) involving 1 station with an unseen clinical scenario.

Students wishing to undertake this module as part of a professional development pathway must:
  • be a registered practitioner working in an area of practice that will allow you to meet the module learning outcomes
  • be in possession of previous study at degree level.
