PGCE interview details

Thank you for your interest in studying a PGCE with Plymouth University. 

If you have received an invitation to interview then congratulations. You'll have received details of what is required of you attached to the interview invitation.

Please ensure when submitting your application form through UCAS, that you are available for interview during the 40 day turnaround time following the submission of your application form. UCAS stipulate for all training providers to make a decision on applications within 40 working days. If you are not able to attend your interview during this period we will be unable to make a decision and therefore UCAS will reject your application by default. 

If you are unable to attend interview until after the 40 day period, and your application is rejected by default you will need to re-apply through Apply 2. If you have any concerns about this process you can visit the UCAS website or email us at educationinterviews@plymouth.ac.uk.

PGCE Primary and PGCE Primary with Early Years

  • We'll generally ask you to arrive at 12.00pm* for a registration session. Here we'll check your academic certificates and identification. You'll also be expected to take part in a small arty task (expected time – 1 hour).
  • Following this, you'll meet some of the tutors who will introduce you to the PGCE programme and answer any questions that you may have (expected time – 30 minutes).
  • Next, you'll take part in a group discussion with other interviewees and tutors, followed by a short literacy and numeracy task (expected overall time – 1 hour).

  • Finally, you will be interviewed in pairs by a member of the PGCE team. These interviews take approximately 30 minutes but you may have to wait for your allocated time slot.

PGCE Secondary - all subject specialisms

  • Arrival is at 10am* for your registration session, where we'll check your academic certificates and identification (expected time – 30 minutes).
  • Following this, you'll be expected to complete a written task. After which there will be the opportunity for questions and time for a short break.
  • You'll then meet some of the tutors who will introduce you to the PGCE programme and answer any questions that you may have (expected time – 30 minutes).

  • After a break for lunch, you'll have your individual subject interview. These interviews take approximately 30 minutes but you may have to wait for your allocated time slot.

PGCE and Certificate in Education (incorporating the Diploma in Education Training (DET))

  • The registration session for this interview will generally begin at 12.45pm* where we'll check your academic certificates and identification. (expected time – 15 minutes).
  • Next you'll be given a short introduction to the PGCE (inc DET) programme by the subject tutors, followed by literacy and numeracy tasks (expected overall time – 1 hour).
  • Your last task before you interview, will be to take part in a group teaching task (expected time – 1 hour).

  • Last but not least, you'll be allocated a time slot for your individual subject interview. These interviews take approximately 30 minutes but you may have to wait for your allocated time slot.
