Tom Yoritaka is a London-based venture capital investor and a former corporate executive at global technology companies. He is a Founding Partner of UCL Discentia Capital, an early-stage EdTech venture capital fund supported by University College London. He sits on boards of a number of European startups and advises several technology industry organisations in the UK.
Tom was the former Global Managing Director of Corporate Venturing at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley and in London, investing in/acquiring/partnering with early-stage companies. As the global head of corporate venturing, he worked with startups innovating in IoT, AI/ML/big data, cybersecurity, cloud and blockchain, providing startups with opportunities to build strategic relationships with Cisco Business Units, co-working space, software, financial support and potential strategic investments from Cisco. He was previously the Senior Director & General Manager of Social Solutions & Platforms, building and managing Cisco’s web software products designed to advance social interactions, knowledge management and collaboration for Cisco customers and partners.
Prior to joining Cisco, Tom held various executive and leadership positions at Yahoo! and Microsoft. He also worked as a strategy consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and McKenna Group. He holds a master's degree from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government, an MBA with honours from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an undergraduate degree in applied mathematics, statistics & economics with honours from Northwestern University. He is currently conducting MSc coursework and research in software engineering at the University of Oxford.
