Tiffany Askett - BSc (Hons) Marine Biology (Exchange student)

"Even though it can be scary to study away from home, you should never let that fear hold you back from what you want to do."

"Plymouth offers great courses where you can make new friends, and it also has the added benefit of being a fantastic city!"

Studying marine biology

"I think the best thing about my course is the amount of knowledge I’ve gained. The lecturers on my course are really engaging, and use lots of examples to demonstrate what they are teaching.

I also like how the course includes going down to the Marine Station to do lab work, and the fact that you are given the opportunity to meet so many different people."

Lots of space to study

"The University campus feels like a mini city itself! If you'd like to be right in the heart of it, you have the choice of living on campus — making classes super easy to get to.

The campus also offers a multitude of study spaces to choose from, which is amazing!"

Settling in

"When I arrived in Plymouth, the Residence Life team were really helpful. They showed me where the Mary Newman halls were and helped me to move my stuff into my room.

I also attended the Residence Life and International Week events, which really helped me to settle in and make new friends."

"While studying in Plymouth, I have tried foods that I haven’t had before — including pasties!

I've also taken part in some of the UK's annual celebrations, including Bonfire Night, and tried to learn more about the history of them."

Exploring Plymouth

"The best thing about the city is its variety. There's the city centre with all of its shops, but there's also the sea, Plymouth Hoe, and the Barbican, all within a 20 minute walk.

I also like how close the train and coach stations are to the university. It makes it really easy if you want to visit somewhere outside of Plymouth!"
