Nilesh Jeetah – MEng (Hons) Civil Engineering

"After studying for over a year and experiencing the high quality of teaching and learning, I have no regret in my choice."

An action-packed schedule

"I have always found myself busy during term time at university. During the weekday, my mornings would be packed with lectures and in the afternoon, I would be playing football, tennis or doing my weekly 5k run with my flatmates.

On the weekends, I used to go to the beautiful Plymouth Hoe to de-stress and refresh for the upcoming week."

"I would recommend attending as many events as you can during the International Orientation Week as they will greatly help you to settle down and give you an opportunity to interact and make friends."

"Everyone wants to socialise during these events! I met one of my closest friends on the campus tour led by student ambassadors during the International Orientation Week."

Studying in the UK

"The UK is a developed country with numerous first-class infrastructure facilities.

During my holidays I did tours of Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and London.

The people are courteous and the UK is one of the world's top destinations for university study."

"Joining societies and participating in activities is highly recommended. I chose to play golf and tennis. This is a unique opportunity to try new things!"

"Through the various societies, one can hold a position of responsibility such as treasurer or chair. Students have the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills further while undertaking these roles. It's a good talking point during job interviews as well!"

Christmas spirit

"Out of the many exciting things I’ve done, the 'Flatmate Christmas Dinner' would come up on top of my list.

It was the most delightful experience as it was our first ever traditional Christmas dinner.

From early morning grocery shopping until the preparation of the Christmas dinner together with other flatmates, it was an amazing experience for me to get a taste of the vibrant Christmas spirit in the UK."

Practical experience

"As a technical student, I can say that the lecturers put a lot of emphasis on practical experience.

They took us on multiple field trips to analyse big structures, including the Tamar Bridge."
