Essential Information for International Students

Monday 18th – Friday 22nd September daily between 16.30 – 17.00 – Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square Building

Delivered by the International Student Advice team, this session is aimed at new international students who did not attend the International Student Orientation programme. The team will advise you of the support services they provide and answer any questions you may have related to your tier 4 visa responsibilities.

Discover what volunteering opportunities you can engage with in the local community, in order to explore the surrounding area, make new friends, try something new and boost your C.V.  With over 50 different community partners and organisations, there will be something for everyone.

A representative of the Students’ Union will outline all the extra-curricular activities you can enjoy, including; sports clubs and societies, volunteering, and how the Union is the hub of social life whilst studying. They provide your student support and representation.

13.00 – 14.00 Introduction to the Library – Room 102a/b, Smeaton Building

Information Specialist

A short presentation from your subject librarian introducing you to the facilities and services of the University library.

19.00 – 21.30 Welcome Party - Graduation Marquee, Plymouth Hoe

The Welcome Party is your opportunity to meet informally with other students new to The Faculty of Science and Engineering as well as some current students and your academic staff.

Additionally the evening includes a welcome drink and nibbles, entertainment and a raffle for all attendees with an iPad to be won on the night.

10.00 – 12.00 Visit to the Marine Building - Meet in the Foyer of the Marine Building

A series of presentations to help you find out more about what is going on in the Plymouth marine scene. Also the opportunity to meet staff, stage 2 and 3 students – and each other!

Any time between 09.00 – 16.00 University Card Collection - Room 015, Ground Floor, Smeaton Building

Your card is used for entry to the Library, some room entry, handing in coursework etc.

You must complete online enrolment and upload a photo prior to attending this session. You will need to bring identification with you to this session. The preferred form of identification is a valid current passport. Please refer to our University Card Collection web page for further details.

NB: If you already have a card i.e. because you were previously a student on another course or at a Partner College, you do not need to attend this session.
