Welcome to the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth, and if you are new to the city, welcome to Plymouth. You are starting on a fascinating intellectual and academic journey with us, as well as an exciting new stage of your life. I hope that you enjoy the journey, and make the most of all the opportunities that the University has to offer.

Your first week here is called Induction Week, during which there will lots of timetabled events. These are aimed at providing you with important information, helping you to become familiar with the University, and giving you the chance to meet some of your fellow students and tutors. There is a full timetable of events listed below. Please read it carefully, and ensure you attend the sessions.

12.30-13.30 Welcome and introduction to MSc and MPsych Programmes with Prof Tim Hollins, Head of School and Programme Leaders, Chris Berry and Alyson Norman

13.30-14.00 Introduction to the University Wellbeing Services with Nicola Ayer from Student Services

14.00-14.30 Break

14.30-15.00 Logins and emails, please bring your device if you have one. Book a tutorial meeting for week 1.

15.00-15.30 Tea and cake

A Postgrad welcome party will be arranged at the beginning of Semester 1, for psychology postgraduate and research students and teaching staff. You will be informed when and where it is to be held via email.

Please note the week beginning 23 September is University week nine.

Facilities in the School of Psychology

Make the most of our specialist facilities – we’re a well equipped department ready to support your research.

We have 22 specialist laboratories ranging from single participant rooms through to labs with a range of networked or standalone computers and social interaction or group participation rooms. There is a wide range of equipment available for loan from the technical office, supported by a team of programmers.
