Additional Module Information

LAW1000PP Ethics and Justice in the Balance Module Information
This short intensive module will provide a basic introduction to ethical considerations in human activity, social life and institutional decision making. It provides a platform to enable students to evaluate concepts of justice, law and ethics as well as themes of morality, duty and responsibility, in relation to everyday individual and collective choices of action.

Following a first week of receiving a theoretical overview of ethical, philosophical and justice concepts and ideas, the class is then divided into three different streams of student choice for the remaining of the module:

  • Stream A demonstrates greater critical focus on the shaping, application and experience of justice within criminalising contexts, as well as on the concerns which underpin social justice in practice;
  • Stream B expands on legal ethics, exploring the moral dimensions of regulation, and broader concerns over ethical practices and common perceptions of duty in professional life; and
  • Stream C places more weight on the realisation of ethical life and expectations of justice within police enforcement, while addressing emerging ethical and moral conflicts within such practices.

GOV1000PP One Planet? Society and Sustainability Module Information
This module addresses some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century from a variety of ideological and political perspectives. Through real-world case studies and critical reflection of lived experiences, we explore and debate the complex, interdependent processes underpinning sustainability and global inequality and insecurities. You develop an understanding of key drivers and public policy impacts and consider future alternative scenarios. The emphasis is on active, collaborative, learning via field trips and debates.
