Welcome

Welcome to your first year in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Plymouth University. You are starting on a fascinating intellectual and professional journey and you will need to stay focused and work hard, but should also aim to enjoy your studies and make the most of your time as a member of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University.

You will see from the timetable below that Induction week will give you the chance to find out more about the Nursing programme and to meet staff and fellow students. You will also become familiar with Plymouth University both its campus and the services available to support you.

Monday 20 February 2017

Sessions today aim to provide information about becoming a nurse and an opportunity to meet staff and your fellow students

  • 1000 - 1200 Rolle Marquee (adjacent to Rolle Building)

Session: Welcome to Plymouth University and an Introduction to the BSc (Hons) Nursing Adult programme

Speakers: Valda Harding Field Lead for Adult Nursing and Suzi Robinson Stage Lead for Year 1

The sessions below will take place at the same time:

Session: Information and card collection (this session will run alongside the session above)

Speaker: School of Nursing and Midwifery Professional Services team

This session will enable you to complete your enrolment and collect your University card.  You will need to bring the documents you have been requested to provide including

  • a copy of your completed self declaration form
  • your passport
  • any documents you have been requested to provide by the admissions team

As long you have your passport and returned the University card form your University card will be available for collection at this session.  Collecting your University ID card enables you to access the University library and Student Union. It is also important you attend this session as late registration may lead to a delay in receipt of the NHS Business Services Agency bursary for students eligible to receive the monthly payments.

If your fees are paid by a sponsor, you will need to provide us with written confirmation of the agreement. Please bring this information with you.

There will be a break for lunch between 1200 and 1300

Tea and coffee will be provided over lunch time.  Please bring your own lunch, or buy it from one of the food outlets available on campus.

Sessions today are focused on your journey to becoming a nurse

Session: Occupational Health appointments

Speaker: Occupational Health Nurses

Your appointment time will be available in Rolle Marquee on Monday 20 February and from Rolle Student Reception for the rest of the week.

These sessions will take place alongside other timetabled activity and you should attend at your designated time.  It is important that you attend your appointment as this is a condition to attending your placement area.  Please ensure you bring a record of any immunisations you may have had to your first appointment. It is possible your first inoculation may take place at this appointment.  There will be a series of follow-up appointments for inoculations throughout the first term and you will receive e-mail notification of these.

If you have a needle phobia please advise occupational health before you start. Please use their e-mail address rde-tr.occhealthfaculty@nhs.net to provide this information. You will need to quote your name, date of birth and programme in any e-mail to Occupational Health.

Session: Uniform fittings

Please ensure you attend these fittings as the uniforms are only delivered a few days before your practice placement and there will not be time to exchange your uniforms. There will be opportunity for you to try on the tunic and trousers.
