Direct Entry to Year 2 - February 2017


Welcome to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Plymouth University. You have already completed part of the your Nursing studies and are entering a further  fascinating intellectual and professional journey to enable you to practice as a Nurse.  You will need to stay focused and work hard, but should also aim to enjoy your studies and make the most of your time as a member of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University.

The sessions scheduled below will give you the opportunity to find out more about the Nursing programme in Plymouth, the programme documentation you will be using, timetables and meet some of the staff. You will also become familiar with Plymouth University both its campus and the services available to support you.

Session:  This session will provide you with information relating to the Nursing programme

Speaker:  Julie McCoy, Adult Nursing Lecturer and Stage tutor

The session will include:

Theory:  Programme Structure, timetables, completion of timesheets and the digital learning environment (Moodle)

Practice Placements: Placement allocation and record (POW), Placement website (POPPI) Placement documentation (Ongoing Achievement record), and Pebblepad

Student support: Personal tutor, Placement Mentor, Placement Development Team Lead, Professional Services Team, Student Representatives

Introduction to the University Student Support Services: Counselling, Student funding unit, Disability assistant

Completion of enrolment:  

Please ensure you have completed on line enrolment.  Provided you have also completed the University card form you will receive your University card at this session.  You will need to bring your passport together with any other documentation that has been requested.

There will be a break for lunch between 1200 and 1300

Taught modules commence as below

ADN203 The Biological and Therapeutic Basic for Adult Nursing Care

ADN204 Skills and Practice for Adult Nursing Care will commence from Tuesday 14 September 2017.  

Once you have completed on line enrolment you will be able to access the timetable for these modules.  Details relating to the module timetable can be found on the University website on the timetable tile and on the moodle site for each module.

Session:  Occupational health appointments

Speaker : Occupational Health nurses

The schedule for the appointments will be available from Rolle Student Reception from Monday 20 February 2017.

It is important that you attend your appointment as this is a condition to attending your placement area.  Please ensure you bring a record of any immunisations you may have had to your first appointment. It is possible your first inoculation may take place at this appointment.  There will be a series of follow-up appointments for inoculations throughout the first term and you will receive e-mail notification of these.

If you have a needle phobia please advise occupational health before you start.  Please use their email address to provide this information. You will need to quote your name, date of birth and programme in any email.
