Welcome to all students enrolled within the School of Biomedical Sciences by Professor Hisham Khalil, Interim Dean and Dr Craig Donaldson, Head of School
1000 – 1200 Introduction to your degree course with Dr Lynn McCallum – Room 003, Babbage Building
This meeting is a very important one. It is your first formal contact with the staff most involved with your degree course, and your fellow students. The session will be led by your Programme Lead, who will introduce you to the school, the structure of degrees at Plymouth, brief details of what topics you might cover during your time here, and so on. You will also be told what we expect of you. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions. During this meeting you will be allocated to a personal tutor.
1200 – 1230 Introduction to Students' Union - Sherwell 2 Upper Lecture Theatre, Sherwell Building
A representative of the Students' Union will outline all the extra-curricular activities you can enjoy, including sports clubs and societies, volunteering, and how the Union is the hub of social life whilst studying. They provide your student support and representation.
1400 – 1530 Laboratory skills workshop with Sarah Jamieson, Andrew Atfield, Sarah Peak – Room 304, Davy Building
This session provides you with an opportunity to test your command of basic laboratory skills (e.g. observation, handling measurement and analysis skills). Join up with 5 other students and try to win a prize (presented to the best groups).
1530 – 1700 Introduction to the library with Chris Johns - Room 304, Roland Levinsky Building
A presentation from your subject librarian introducing you to the facilities and services of the University library

0900 – 1100 Workshop on microscopes with Paul Laurence Young and Lynn McCallum – Room 209, Davy Building
1100 – 1130 Pick up ID cards from Faculty Office, C206 Portland Square. You will need your ID cards to get to Derriford for your Occupational Health drop in session.
Please collect your Student ID card from the School Faculty Office. Please ensure you have uploaded your photo online as this will delay in the collection of your card.
You will need to make sure you pick up your ID cards to enable you to gain free bus travel to the Derriford campus site. If you do not have your ID card you will not be able to gain free travel and will have to pay.
You will need to make your way by bus to Derriford Hospital. The bus stops are outside the front of the University on North Hill. You will need to catch either the 42 or 42C (42 timings are: 11:53 or 12:23 and 42C timings are: 12:43 or 13:13). The map of where the OH drop in session is held is on the induction site under your programme.
1230 – 1400 Occupational health drop-in session at Derriford Health and Leisure Centre, Derriford Hospital, Derriford

1915 – 2145 Faculty Welcome Party – Graduation Marquees, Plymouth Hoe
The Welcome Party is your opportunity to meet informally with other students new to the Faculty, as well as some current students and your academic and professional services staff.
The evening includes a welcome drink and nibbles, entertainment and a raffle for all attendees.

Find out about the teaching and research activities going on in our School. A chance to meet the staff who will be teaching you and chat to some current students over refreshments.
1430 – 1530 Quiz with Simon Fox and Andy Foey - Lecture Theatre, Robbins Building
This is your chance to show us what you know, during multiple choice quiz. Needless to say, there will be a prize for the winner. The quiz also provides an opportunity to get to grips with the 'Optical Mark Reader', a device which is often used for assessment in Stage 1 and which needs special care on your part. Bring your registration number to this session.
