Essential Information for International Students
Monday 18th – Friday 22nd September daily between 16.30 – 17.00 – Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square Building
Delivered by the International Student Advice team, this session is aimed at new international students who did not attend the International Student Orientation programme. The team will advise you of the support services they provide and answer any questions you may have related to your tier 4 visa responsibilities.

11.00 – 11.15 Introduction to the Students’ Union – Lecture Theatre 1, Roland Levinsky Building
A representative of the Students’ Union will outline all the extra-curricular activities you can enjoy, including; sports clubs and societies, volunteering, and how the Union is the hub of social life whilst studying. They provide your student support and representation.
11.15 – 11.45 The Plymouth Award – Lecture Theatre 1, Roland Levinsky Building

19.00 – 21.30 Monday Welcome Party - Graduation Marquee, Plymouth Hoe
The Welcome Party is your opportunity to meet informally with other students new to The Faculty of Science and Engineering as well as some current students and your academic staff.
Additionally the evening includes a welcome drink and nibbles, entertainment and a raffle for all attendees with an iPad to be won on the night.

One hour tutorial between 10.00 – 16.00 Tutorial Session
Dr Mark Holton
Students will need to attend a one hour tutorial session today. Dr Mark Holton will provide further details during the introductory talk on Monday.
This tutorial will introduce you to your tutor and will discuss logistical issues such as the online timetabling system and your allocation to practical groups, and will provide you with details of the times of your first week lectures so that you know exactly where you need to be when your classes start next week.
10.00 – 12.00 Introduction to the Geography Society and student life - Room 701, Davy Building
Student REPs from Geography Society
A 30 minute interactive session for each of the groups run by representatives of the University of Plymouth Geography Society
You will be advised which of the four groups you are in at the introductory talk on the Monday.
15.30 – 16.30 Introduction to the Library and IT – LectureTheatre 1, Sherwell Church (Lower)

A short presentation from your subject librarian introducing you to the facilities and services of the University library.
16.30 – 17.30 Geography Welcome Reception –
Sherwell Church, Foyer and Mezzanine
The reception is a chance to meet the Geography staff and other new Students on the Geography degree programmes.

Any time between 09.00 – 16.00 University Card Collection - Room 015, Ground Floor, Smeaton Building
You can collect your University card from Room 015, Ground Floor, Smeaton Building during the times given above. Your card is used for entry to the Library, some room entry, handing in coursework etc.
You must complete online enrolment and upload a photo prior to attending this session. You will need to bring identification with you to this session. The preferred form of identification is a valid current passport. Please refer to our University Card Collection web page for further details.
NB: If you already have a card i.e. because you were previously a student on another course or at a Partner College, you do not need to attend this session.

For Thursday and Friday, you will be allocated groups and given times of sessions to take part in two activities. These are:
Studying Geography at Plymouth: Dr Mark Holton, Stage 1 Tutor. A one and a half hour, relaxed and interactive session to get you thinking about studying Geography at University level. This will focus on fundamental issues such as your expectations, aspirations and concerns about studying at University level. These sessions will be held in Room 701 of Davy Building.
Introduction to the University of Plymouth IT facilities: A one-hour class to introduce the University and the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences’ IT facilities. These sessions will be held in Room 310, Fitzroy Building. Everybody should attend, including those already familiar with email, as we also run through general computing issues such as the local and networked storage space, printing and other IT facilities.
The table below shows which groups of students should attend each session. As mentioned before, you will be advised of your group membership at the introductory session on Monday and this will also be listed on the School noticeboard outside Room 504, Portland Square.
