Dr Weidi Pan
Plymouth Business School (Faculty of Business)
Dr Wei Pan is Reader in Sustainable Construction at the University of Plymouth. UK. He is a member of the Environmental Building Group (EBG) of the School of Architecture, Design and Environment (ADE). He has a PhD in Construction Management and a MSc (Distinction) in Construction Project Management from Loughborough University, and a BEng (Distinction) in Construction (Civil) Engineering from Hunan University.
Dr Pan's research interest exists in the areas of offsite production and modern methods of construction; sustainable construction and zero carbon building; and decision-making in innovative technology. He has attracted funding from, and/or has been involved in research funded by, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Europe Social Fund (ESF), Higher Education Academy (HEA), Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), Construction Industry Research & Information Association (CIRIA), Loughborough University and University of Plymouth. He is referee for six leading academic journals and two book publishers, and sits on organising/technical committee of two annual international conferences. He has supervised, and is supervising, a number of PhD and MSc research projects.
Dr Pan is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and won Teaching Fellowship Award at the University of Plymouth (2010-2011). He has also innovated teaching and learning in sustainable construction and environmental building. He has attracted funding from HEA for two innovative projects: critical thinking in project-based learning and research-informed teaching. Dr Pan is Academic Leader for the Environmental Building "Large and Innovative Building" Design & Build Project which is a cross-Faculty (Arts, Science and Technology), cross-School (ADE and Engineering), multi-disciplinary project, with close engagement and collaboration with industry.
Dr Pan is also highly active in industry engagement and professional involvement. He is Chartered Builder (MCIOB) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). Before joining the academia, he had worked for over ten years in structural design and engineering, construction project management, R&D, and innovation management in the UK, China, Singapore and Nepal. He contributed to success of several large-scaled civil and building engineering construction projects. His immediately past role in industry was Group Innovation Manager of a UK leading developer with an annual turnover of GBP£550 million.
