Dr Sanzidur Rahman

Associate Professor (Reader) in International Development

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (Faculty of Science & Engineering)

Role

I am a leading researcher on international development issues and policies focusing on agricultural and rural sectors. The core concern of my research is to improve understanding of the range of factors affecting economic development in developing economies and to promote their integration into policy and practice. My interest is also in examining interaction between energy and agriculture. My main analytical approach is the use of quantitative and econometric methods. I have published 104 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, 21 book chapters and several research reports and professional articles in the field of agricultural economics, development and policy. I have gained research grants from the Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, DEFRA, DTI, USDA and FAO. I held the positions of University Associate at the Curtin Business School, Perth, Australia and holding Adjunct Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. I have a keen interest in supervising PhD students in the field of agricultural economics, energy-agriculture interface, environmental economics, productivity and efficiency analysis, poverty and livelihood analysis, and applied micro-economics. Past research degree graduates were from Mexico, Nigeria, China, Syria, Thailand, Bangladesh and the UK. Current students are from Sudan, Brazil and Bangladesh.
