As a Fine Art graduate, teacher and art specialist I began working as Lecturer in Education (Art and Design) at Plymouth University in January 2012. I teach on the BEd Art Specialist Pathway and Educational Studies Programmes. I have a long history of working within education in Devon both as a primary and secondary teacher and as a local education authority consultant for art, design and gifted and talented education. In 2011 I set up my own business, Arts Speak Limited, in order to provide arts education services to schools and promote learning in and through the arts working in partnership with museums, galleries and arts organisations.

I was awarded a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology in 1984 and a PGCE in primary education fro Rolle College, Exmouth in 1988. I began my teaching career as music and art co-ordinator at Mansell Middle School in Southampton and went on to teach full-time at Exwick Middle School in Exeter, Hooe Primary School in Plymouth and Oldway Primary School in Paignton. In 1997 I began teaching part-time at Langley Junior School in Plymouth and Loddiwell Primary School near Kingsbridge. I have been a school governor, a member of school senior management and a subject leader for art and design. While continuing to teach part-time at Loddiswell School I worked for the LEA and The Devon Learning and Development Partnership (LDP) from 2003 until 2011 as Consultant for Art, Design and Talent and Associate Tutor for Devon LDP. I am Director of my own company, Arts Speak Limited, which runs art events and projects for primary and secondary students and staff in a variety of settings including Beaford Arts.
