Dr Panagiotis Tziogkidis

Role

Panos Tziogkidis has been with Plymouth University since April 2013 and he holds a PhD in Economics from Cardiff Business School. Apart from his teaching and research within Plymouth Business School, he has collaborated with the US Department of Transportation as an expert adviser on issues of efficiency and productivity analysis. He has been invited by the European Commission to present his recent work on the Global Innovation Index. Panos has practical experience from the banking sector, having worked as an investment analyst.

His research interests include both methodological aspects of efficiency and productivity analysis as well as empirical applications. His theoretical research currently focuses on the performance of Bootstrap DEA and the development of efficient alternatives. His current empirical research looks into the effects of regulation on banks' productivity and on alternative interpretations for the Global Innovation Index. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, while he also serves as a reviewer for the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), Annals of Operations Research (ANOR), Journal of Productivity Analysis (JPA), the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance (QREF), the International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance (IJBAF) and Applied Economics.

Teaching interests


Panos is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and his teaching interests focus on areas of business economics, finance and economic modelling. His teaching portfolio includes courses taught to undergraduate (microeconomics), postgraduate (macroeconomics) and PhD (mathematical finance) economics students, as well as MBA (corporate finance) students. He has also delivered intensive workshops on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis to postgraduates and industry practitioners. Currently, he is the module leader on "Contemporary Business Economics" and "Business Analysis", while he is partially involved with the teaching of "Principles of Economics" and "Practical Economic Modelling". He also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students on empirical studies of efficiency and productivity analysis, as well as on financial econometrics.
