Panos Tziogkidis has been with Plymouth University since April 2013 and he holds a PhD in Economics from Cardiff Business School. Apart from his teaching and research within Plymouth Business School, he has collaborated with the US Department of Transportation as an expert adviser on issues of efficiency and productivity analysis. He has also been invited by the European Commission to present his recent work on the Global Innovation Index. Panos has practical experience from the banking sector, having worked as an investment analyst.

His research interests include both methodological aspects of efficiency and productivity analysis as well as empirical applications. His current research focuses on conditional multidirectional convergence in European banking. Panos has published in distinguished peer-reviewed journals including the European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Behavior & OrganizationOmegaAnnals of Operations Research, Energy Economics and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money.

Teaching interests


Panos is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and his teaching interests focus on areas of business economics, finance and economic modelling. His teaching portfolio includes modules taught to undergraduate (economics, quantitative methods), postgraduate (macroeconomics) and PhD (mathematical finance) students, as well as MBA (corporate finance) students. He has also delivered intensive workshops on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis to postgraduates and industry practitioners. Currently, he is the module leader on "Contemporary Business Economics" and "Markets & Industries", while he is partially involved with "Practical Economic Modelling". He supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students on empirical studies of efficiency and productivity analysis, as well as on the modelling of financial time series.
