Mr Mark Symons
Marine Instrumentation Technician
School of Biological and Marine Sciences (Faculty of Science and Engineering)
Previously working in the offshore survey industry for 7 years, primarily as a Hydrographic Surveyor, gaining experience in geophysical, construction & geotechnical surveys. During this time, I also had the opportunity to work as a Hugin AUV Technician, with research trips for NIWA and Gothenburg University. The pinnacle of which was navigating the AUV under the Dotson Ice shelf in Antarctica, collecting upward looking Multi Beam Echo Sounder data of the underside of the ice shelf, something that has not been done before.
Now working within the School of Biological and Marine Sciences at Plymouth Univesity. Focusing on maintaining the current research equipment pool, whilst helping to build and design bespoke instrumentation systems for marine science and coastal processes research.
MSc Hydrogrpahy (Plymouth University)
BSc Ocean Science (Plymouth University)
