Plymouth Graduate School of Management & Plymouth Business School (HP) (Faculty of Business (HP))
My substantive role is Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, a post that I have held for seventeen years. I am currently Professor of Accounting, prior to that Head of Economics, Finance and Accounting, having previously been seconded to work with the Dean (Special Projects) on a number of process and systems review projects for the University. Before that I held the position of Associate Dean and Head of the Graduate Business School.
I graduated from University of London, Royal Holloway College, in 1973 with a BSc in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing, quickly following this with a postgraduate certificate in education from University of London Garnett College, one of only four University colleges specialising in teaching programmes for FE and HE lecturers.
A change of direction led me into the business world, first qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and then moving to UCL Plc as financial accountant and financial systems support consultant.
I returned to higher education in 1986, joining Polytechnic South West in 1988.
I have been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1978.
