Role
I am a Lecturer in Education Studies/Professional Studies on BEd and PGCE course programmes. I am module leader for Professional Studies (EPGP700) and subject leader for BEd Education Studies.
Prior to my role as Lecturer in Education Studies at Plymouth University, I was a teacher for 33 years, in both primary and secondary schools, with fifteen of those years as a primary school Headteacher.
I have worked in schools in the West Midlands, Devon, Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly.
My specialisms include English Language and Literature, and Drama.
Teaching interests
English, particularly teaching writing skills in KS1 and KS2
Drama - using role play and drama to enhance creativity across the curriculum
Maths - at KS2 with children who find the subject challenging
Cross-curricular topics and themes Gender issues in attainment, particularly in literacy. Assessment
Research interests
Gender - the "underperformance" of boys in literacy and language from Early Years
