Dr James Gould
Lecturer in Law

James is currently a Lecturer in Law at the University of Plymouth. This role involves legal research, teaching (lectures and tutorials), and administration. James joined the University of Plymouth from the University of Exeter in 2018. He completed his PhD in Law at the University of Exeter and served as an Associate Lecturer. Prior to this he was a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant. He was supervised by Professor Rebecca Probert, Professor Simon Honeyball, Professor Esther Reed, and Professor Sean Coyle. He further read for his undergraduate degree in law at the University of Exeter and has also taught law at the University of Bristol.
He has given numerous research papers both nationally and internationally. Further he has acted as an editor/peer reviewer for Palgrave Macmillan and Oxford University Press, and also for the journal Law & Justice.
James has been called to the Bar (Middle Temple) and has sat on the committee for the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association since 2015. He has also worked extensively with Nicholas Isaac QC.
Member of the SLS. Member of the SoLCG Research Committee and FoB Research Ethics and Integrity Committee. Member of SCuLE (Science, Culture and the Law at Exeter) and the Human Rights and Democracy Forum research groups. Commissioned as a Blackstone and James Wilson fellow. Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Since 2013 he has served as a non-executive trustee/director for the charity, Adventure Plus. He is also an accredited mediator (ADR Group).
James has further volunteered for both the CAB and FRU. This is in addition to giving regular legal opinion, by invitation, on BBC Radio Devon.
