Business Improvement Manager
Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry
I am the Business Improvement Manager at Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. My current major projects are;
- Supporting the expansion of our Medical School through additional student numbers.
- Coordinating our Faculty's Athena SWAN activities.
- Looking at research impact and preparations for the next REF.
- Reviewing the faculty's e-assessment administrative processes (Local Improvement Project).
As Athena SWAN Coordinator, I work with the Faculty's Self-Assessment Team, Associate Dean (Equality and Inclusion) and the Equality and Inclusion Coordinator to understand and address equality issues impacting on staff and students in medicine, dentistry and biomedicine. We achieved a Silver Athena SWAN award in November 2016.
I am also working with the Associate Dean (Research), Senior Administrator (Research Excellence) and researchers to identify and develop potential impact case studies for the next Research Excellence Framework exercise. I liaise closely with colleagues in Research and Innovation.
I have been trained as a practitioner as part of the University's Local Improvement Project initiative. My first project was reviewing the timetabling process within PUPSMD, comparing the approaches of our Medical and Dental Schools.
I have previously worked on research strategy and REF2014 for PSMD, and various projects for the former Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry including PenCLAHRC where I was Operational and Finance Manager from 2009 - 2012. Across the University, I have held roles in the Plymouth Business School, the former Faculty of Social Science and Business, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and the Central Quality Office.
My background (and continued interest) is in History, in particular US History and the Civil Rights Movement.
