I have two positions within the university Lecturer Practitioner for pre reg nursing programmes and clinical skills Demonstrator teaching skills for Pre Reg nursing programmes. I also am a senior staff nurse practising within critical care
I am a registered nurse employed within Intensive care at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. I have worked within this department for 15 years as a senior staff nurse.During my employment I have had secondments as a Practice Educator and Clinical Demonstrator a role I currently do for Pre Reg nursing students. I have also become involved with Interprofessional Learning for medical students and nursing students experiencing skills together. Prior to this role I was employed at the Royal Oldham Hospital as an Educational Facilitator which included in house training programmes such as NVQ programmes ODP programmes and enhanced roles for qualified nurses.
My background from qualifying commenced within rehabilitation for the elderly to medical admissions and then to intensive care. However education has always been a constant drive for my enthusiasm for teaching in a variety of clinical settings and using a variety of learning styles.
Teaching interests include using simulation within practice areas using real time scenarios, and clinical skills within a safe environment. ILS instructor status
I have been involved with research related to clinical skills and the patient journey and how nursing students can apply skills within the context of practising those skills
