I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in London in 1993, then achieved a BSc in Psychology and Counselling at the University of Surrey in 1996. I gained experience on medical and surgical wards, then moved to community nursing. I achieved a  BSc Specialist Practitioner qualification in District Nursing at De Montfort University in 2002. Whilst working as and mentoring district nurses, I undertook a PG Cert in Practice Education at the University of Northampton, and mentored District Nursing Students. On moving to Cornwall in 2006 I worked as a Community Matron in Truro, gaining valuable experience in caring for patients' with chronic diseases and long-term conditions. As part of my ongoing professionaI development I completed 'Advancing Practice in Long-term Conditions', and 'Nurse Independent and Supplementary Prescribing'. My teaching interests lie firmly in community nursing, long-term condition management and non-medical prescribing.
