Research interests

Research skills developed during research and laboratory activity at the University:


• Micropalaeontology: planktonic and benthonic foraminifera quantitative analysis and semi-quantitative analysis
• High resolution biostratigraphy and isotope stratigraphy (oxygen and carbon) from marine sediments of land sections and sedimentary cores spanning from Miocene to Recent, from the Mediterranean to the Arctic.
• Palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic reconstructions. 
• Optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) on different kind of geological materials 
• Field mapping with the support of GPS data and GIS environment. 
• Stratigraphical and sedimentological analysis. 
• Recent soils and marine sediments sampling.
• Laboratory preparation for different analyses (micropalaeontology, sedimentology, petrography, mineralogy, etc.).
• Stable isotope geochemistry (oxygen and carbon) on bulk rock and foraminiferal samples 
• Grain size analyses.

Specific laboratory skills developed working as a technician at the cultural Heritage Department of R&C Lab S.r.l. (Vicenza, Italy):

• Thin sections and polished sections preparation.
• Studying at the transmission light microscope of natural rocks (magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks), and artificial rocks (mortars, plasters, cements and clay materials).
• Analyses at the scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with the microchemical analytical system (EDS) on natural and artificial materials.
• Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses.
• X-ray powder diffraction analysis (XRPD).
• X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF).
