Biography

Biography

As Senior SDLE Technician I oversee the day to day running of Simulated Dental facilities in Plymouth, Exeter and Truro as well as organising the practical assessments within those areas. I am passionate about human rights and equality issues.

I am very creative and have a special interest in Digital Dentistry. I am proud to support the University with regards to 3D Printing and Haptic Dentistry and the University has supported me in creating my own dexterity tool for simulated dental teaching which can be utilized by both physical and haptic simulators. I am also learning basic CAD design and have successfully 3D printed simulated teeth for assessments.

I am Co-Chair of the LGBT+ Forum and a member of our Faculty Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. My experience as a Bi person at the University has been incredibly positive, I have found since joining the staff network that my confidence has improved and my department has supported my ambition to be a role model to other LGBT staff as well as the additional time I have dedicated to equality issues across the University as a whole. I love that other members of staff are as passionate as I am and I think that is reflected in the work we do. I have both taken part in and delivered the University's allies training and it was important to me that I had the opportunity to reflect my own experiences within that. I also volunteered as part of the University's stall at Plymouth Pride and was recently honored at a reception held by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth as a local LGBT Community Leader.I could not have got this far without the opportunities offered to me via the University and with the comfortable freedom of expressing my sexuality at work.

I have completed the Springboard Course as well as a course in International Womens Health and Human Rights through Stanford University. I was also in the initial cohort of the Herschel Programme for women in Technical Leadership where a poster I created was displayed in Westminster.

Externally I am also an examiner for the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses and support Women for Women International.
