Biography
Biography
Andre White is registered professional civil engineer in Jamaica and a former president of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers. He was awarded a British Commonwealth Scholarship in 2018 and is currently a PhD Candidate at the COAST Engineering Research Group at the University of Plymouth.
The focus of his research is on floating offshore wind turbines. The project aims to assess the design loads on a floating offshore wind turbine at a proposed location off the south coast of Jamaica. Particularly, the dynamic behaviour of the wind turbine will be assessed considering probabilistic design loads as compared to deterministic loads. A numerical model will be developed, using the wind-turbine design software, FAST. In addition, the model will be validated by creating a physical scaled model and testing in the ocean basin at the COAST laboratory.
The project is funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK.
