We pride ourselves in the provision of high quality, innovative and employment-focused tourism programmes. We are proud of our achievements in meeting students’ needs and look back over a long history of excellence in tourism higher education having recently celebrated our twentieth anniversary of delivering tourism degrees. Our tourism degrees are consistently ranked highly, among the top ten, in university league tables which is furthermore reflected in our students’ experience where the most recent National Student Survey results revealed that almost 90% of tourism undergraduates were either ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with their time at Plymouth University. Plymouth University itself was recently ranked as one of the top 300 universities worldwide (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) so students can be assured of a university-wide support system of world-class staff and facilities to support your learning.

Courses are taught by staff with a wide range of specialist practical, consultancy and research experience within the industry. We believe that our unique skillset provides students with a distinctive experience, setting them up to tackle challenges in an innovative and yet commercially aware way.  Taught within the Business Faculty three themed undergraduate degree courses are offered: Business and Tourism, International Tourism Management and Tourism Management. Each programme provides a critical understanding of tourism and business management. We design each degree course to give students the skills that will enable them to function and communicate in a challenging and exciting commercial environment. 

There could possibly be no better place to study tourism than here in the South West   which represents one of the United Kingdom's most popular tourist regions. It boasts major tourist attractions right on the doorstep of the Plymouth campus. Our courses are vocationally focused with commercial links extending regionally, nationally and internationally that are designed to enhance our graduates’ employment profile in one of the fastest expanding global industries. 

Our expertise is not confined to the classroom. We actively engage with industry and members of our team assume important roles on numerous industry bodies and associations such as the South West Tourism Alliance and the regional chapter of the Tourism Society. As experienced researchers we are keen to provide contract research and consultancy services to the tourism sector and have worked with numerous private and public sector organisations in this manner.
