The Faye Doris Bursary
Offering between £820 - £1640 for qualified midwives employed in Somerset, Devon or Cornwall wishing to undertake further study at Plymouth

The Faye Doris Bursary for qualified midwives employed in Somerset, Devon or Cornwall wishing to undertake further study at the University of Plymouth.
Faye Doris retired as the Lead for Midwifery Education at the University of Plymouth in 2015, following almost 20 years working with the organisation. During that time, her knowledge and experience influenced and impacted countless students and staff, and enhanced both the University and the healthcare system.
As a midwife she was - and remains - an ardent supporter of women, mothers and babies and the promotion of education that meets their needs.
Faye has established a bursary fund to help midwives wishing to undertake further study that can contribute to the maternity services through clinical practice, research, education, leadership, management or any other area. This study must take place at Plymouth University.
The bursary is likely to be between £820 and £1640, and the study which it supports does not necessarily have to be midwifery specific.
To be eligible to apply for the bursary, you must meet the following criteria:
Please download and complete the application form and send it as an email attachment, together with letters of support from two referees (on headed note paper), to fohexecsupport@plymouth.ac.uk.
Although applications are still encouraged, funding for this Bursary is currently under review. Applications will be acknowledged and further information provided once the review of funding has taken place.
Applications will be considered by a Board comprising the Head of School or representative, Faye Doris and a representative from the Development Office.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submission within 15 working days.
Please note that submission of a completed application form indicates that the applicant accepts that the selection Board’s decision is final. No further correspondence will be entered into regarding the Board’s decision.
If you would like to seek advice prior to applying for the bursary, this may be sought from a variety of sources, including: the Link Midwifery Lecturer to the maternity services in which you are employed; a Practice Development Midwife/Education Lead within your services, or your Head of Midwifery.
