Sustainability in the School of Nursing and Midwifery

Sustainability is integral to the University, Plymouth is realising the concept of the ‘Sustainable University’.

We aim to support and position the School of Nursing and Midwifery as a lead centre of excellence in embedding sustainability in the curriculum and delivering evidence-informed sustainable education.

Through the curriculum, we develop practitioners who will be equipped to provide healthcare in a changing environment. We encourage students to be critically engaged and reflect on themselves and their relationships with others and with the environment.

This is supported by Sustainability Education Developers and the Centre for Sustainable Futures, and underpinned by the research undertaken by the Sustainability, Society and Health Research Cluster.

We collaborate with other disciplines, for example bringing design students into clinical skills sessions to work with nursing and midwifery students to develop design solutions to climate change and resources challenges faced in health care.
