Mechanical, marine and materials engineering

About us

All courses are accredited to appropriate levels of professional status and all offer excellent preparation for developing or continuing a professional career in design, manufacturing, research and development, project management, etc.

Built on an essential core of engineering science and engineering design, each course has a different emphasis of specialism, as the course titles suggest. Our courses contain plenty of hands-on experience and provide access to excellent equipment and facilities. The teaching staff are friendly, supportive and, most importantly, accessible. We have a range of academic, scientific and industrial backgrounds and offer sufficient variety of skills and interests to keep the subject area alive and engaging for our students.

We meet regularly with our Industry Advisory Group of local engineering employers. They help to ensure that our taught programmes are relevant to industry’s needs. Many of our partners also provide industry experience for students, through placements and visits; support and sponsorship for project work; and of course graduate employment. Several of the industry representatives are actually Plymouth University graduates.

Michael Prest – BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Composites graduate

My placement year helped me in my final year as it gave me direction as to what I wanted to do. It also showed me the real industry applications and methods being used that I could bring into my university work.
