Mathematics Excellence Scheme

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences does not run an unconditional offer scheme. Based upon previous qualifications, your personal statement and your referee’s statement we may select you for our Mathematics Excellence Scheme and make you a personalised offer. This offer will be below our usual tariff range and intended as a gesture of confidence in your ability. We hope that having this reduced offer with us will give you confidence during your A levels and help you to achieve very high grades. It is worth realising that your A level grades matter: even with a first class honours degree, future employers may still use A levels as a filter when deciding whom to invite to interview.

You can also obtain a mathematical sciences scholarship of up to £1,000 by gaining an A in Mathematics and an A in Further Mathematics A levels (each of these grades yields a £500 scholarship for students who have put us first choice).

We would strongly recommend that you visit one of our applicant days and we look forward to meeting you personally at one of them.

In the mathematical sciences, we are proud of our record of supporting and developing students to achieve their very best. In the latest Guardian Mathematics League Table of universities, we again obtained 100 per cent satisfaction with the quality of our mathematics degrees. This is part of a record of sustained success: we recently, for example, obtained the highest score in the UK for satisfaction with the quality of mathematics teaching. Our graduates have obtained roles in companies, such as Deloitte, GSK, Lloyds Banking Group, Siemens and TUI, as well as in academia - including a professorship at Cambridge.
