Animal Behaviour and Welfare careers
The following students completed their degrees in 2012 and all attribute their success to the fact that they had placements at zoos in their third year.

Danielle Farah has recently started working in the small primate section at Marwell Zoo - she undertook her placements year at SANCCOB.

Laura-Jane Preston works at Paignton Zoo as a mammal keeper, mainly working with the monkeys although she has been trained on all sections.

Camille Sade is now working at Longleat Safari Park responsible for birds, gorillas, sea lions and hippos!

Heather Howe also graduated in 2012. Heather has successfully completed the level 2 and 3 Hydrotherapy course in June 2013 and is now a registered Canine Hydrotherapist at Doggy Dips Canine Hydrotherapy Centre.

Relevant work experience

Apart from field and laboratory techniques, there is an option to take a placement year and gain a Certificate of Professional or Work Experience from it. However you are encouraged to do as much as possible to build experience, be it on a voluntary basis or by small pockets of experience through work shadowing and networking. There are opportunities to do this through animal charities, zoos, wildlife trusts and many other organisations in the UK or overseas, though some payment may be required for the latter.
