Sophie (Dejie) Kong is a PhD candidate and the lab manager of Plymouth Charity Lab at Plymouth University’s Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy. Sophie holds a BA in journalism and communication from Renmin University of China and a MSc in management from University of Bristol. With a mixed educational background, her research focuses on understanding the insights of relationship fundraising in digital space and how donors can feel better by having close relationships with charities.

Sophie obtained the Institution of Fundraising's Diploma in Fundraising in 2015. She works on research projects with many nonprofit organisations including Oxfam, WWF, British Heart Foundation, Cats Protection, the RSPCA, Sightsavers and Barnardo’s. She has worked with Love Save Pneumoconiosis (a Chinese charity fund), Transparent Fish Fund (a US-China charity fund) and is also a committed writer in Chinese philanthropic education.
