Lucy Elson
“I am currently engaged in an internship at the National Marine Aquarium whilst also being in my first year studying BSc (Hons) Business Management 2-year Fast-Track. So far, the first stage of my course has given me the grounding theory of business and by engaging in an internship alongside my studies, I can sufficiently put theory into practise. By gaining practical experience whilst doing my degree, I believe I will become more employable as I am developing essential competencies such as communication and time management skills whilst also gaining valuable on the work experience. I am already finding it easier to link in practical examples and situations into my essay answers and exam responses, therefore increasing my marks, as I have a stronger depth of knowledge and application.

During my first month with the National Marine Aquarium, I have already been able to engage in practical projects such as initiating a Facebook competition, developing an upcoming radio advertisement, developing  assets with an external design agency and assisting in general marketing within an office environment. I have also had the opportunity to attend an evening marketing campaign so I could view one of the charity’s promotional learning events in action. I am continuing to develop my networking, team-working and self-motivation skills and by participating in an internship that is so closely related to my subject area, it means that I can more easily and more confidently transition into a future career of my preference."
