For thirty years, Stephen Pidgeon has provided fundraising services to the UK’s charity sector, working with well over 200 of the nation’s top charities. For twenty of those years he founded and ran Tangible (formerly Target Direct) the leading company providing specialist fundraising services to the sector, selling it in 2007 with nearly 150 staff and a turnover to match. Clients of the three agencies within the Group, Tangible, Brightsource and Talking Numbers, included nearly every one of the top fifty charities in the UK, and in particular the Royal British Legion, which over twelve years transformed its finances by growing, from virtually zero, a massive database of active supporters.
Since selling the agency, he has taken his extensive fundraising experience abroad and now delivers strategic and creative support to charities in Norway, Denmark, the US, Canada and New Zealand as well as the UK. His active production of fundraising materials in all media, working with creative and data colleagues, ensures his knowledge is current.
Working primarily with Professor Adrian Sargeant, Stephen now teaches direct marketing and other forms of fundraising throughout the world. He is a senior member of the teaching faculty at the UK Institute of Fundraising’s Academy and at the University of Bologna. He delivered the first Certificate course in Ireland in the Autumn, and took on a teaching tour of New Zealand. Stephen is currently helping to deliver training in the US to Public Broadcasting fundraisers and is working with Royal Mail in UK to develop the strategic advice given to their charity clients.
A proficient speaker, he lectures at conferences around the world and has recently delivered a second four-city tour of Canada with three other senior world speakers. In last year’s prestigious AFP International conference in Vancouver, his sessions ranked second in the speaker evaluations.
Stephen is an elected Trustee of the UK’s Institute of Fundraising and is Chairman of the Standards Committee that sets fundraising quality standards for the whole of the sector in the UK. He writes frequently and often critically in the sector press and occasionally Tweets on #stephenpidge.
