Welcome to the University of Plymouth Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy - whether you’re hoping to study fundraising with us here at Plymouth, looking to book some consulting time with our team, wanting to develop a new training programme for your staff, or seeking an expert speaker for your event, you’ve come to the right place. 

With a combined experience of over 60 years in this field, a first-hand knowledge of fundraising in many different countries and the ability to draw on the latest research, the team at the Centre are best placed to help and advise on all aspects of fundraising and giving.


The University of Plymouth Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy has produced a wealth of reports.

The reports are available to help both individuals and organisations develop their fundraising practices and contain many useful case studies.

Rogare – Latin for ‘to ask’ – is our fundraising think tank

Rogare will generate new practical ideas by pulling together the academic and practitioner branches of the fundraising profession.

Within the University of Plymouth Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy, Rogare acts as the hub for academic support on giving and fundraising

Ian MacQuillin

Ian MacQuillin has worked in the fundraising sector since 2001 and now manages Rogare, the fundraising think tank at the Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy.

Plymouth Charity Lab

The lab assists researchers to advance our scientific understanding of philanthropy.

We are looking for people to participate in our studies. We pay £4 per half hour.
