Opportunities for history students
These are some of the local history and heritage sites that may offer work opportunities. For some there is a dedicated contact at the site, however, if you prefer, you can email Sandra Barkhof in the first instance, and she will get in touch with the site for you.

Killerton House, Tiverton

Killerton House was built in 1779 and is a fine example of its period and contains a major collection of period clothing and fashion objects dating from 1690 to the 1940s. 

Volunteers are vital in bringing this beautiful house to life and inspiring and helping our visitors to learn more about Killerton and the Acland family. As a volunteer you will be part of a friendly and dedicated team, meet people from all walks of life, improve your communication skills and confidence and enjoy new experiences and learn something new every day.

Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum, Kingsbridge

Regular voluntary experience, half day or a whole day per week (or two weeks). The opportunities would be in our local history resource centre, updating our records as well as dealing with enquiries and finding out more about working in a museum or archive environment. There is also the option of a placement to be involved with creating an exhibition. This would be particularly suitable for students wishing to gain experience of working within the heritage sector and those with an interest in local history. National Marine Biological Library, Plymouth

Several ways students may be able to help - occasional work (two hours a week for two to four weeks) or worked out on a case-by-case basis. Buckland Abbey, Garden and Estate, Yelverton

Buckland Abbey is a National Trust Property at Yelverton, near Tavistock, Devon. Buckland Abbey is the former home of Sir Francis Drake.
