Module 1 and 2 swimming course

Once qualified the holder of the ASA/NCTP Certificate for Teaching School Swimming (key stages 1 and 2), modules 1and 2  will be equipped with the skills to plan and evaluate a programme designed to meet the swimming component of the National Curriculum (NC) and to teach unsupervised a range of skills to groups within a school swimming programme

Course content

Unit 1 – Introduction to Working in a Pool Environment – 3 Hours
Unit 2 – Working with Non Swimmers and Beginners – 3 hours
Unit 3 – Skill Development for those working towards and working at the improver stage of learning to swim – 3 hours
Unit 5 – Stroke Development for those working towards and working at the Improver Stage of Learning to Swim
Unit 4 – Stroke Development for those working towards and working at the Improver Stage of Learning to Swim


What you will learn

By the end of the course the learner will have knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

Module 1:
Element 1 - Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships
Element 2 - Health and Safety in the Aquatic Environment
Element 3 - Safeguarding and protecting children
Element 4 - Organisation of the learning environment
Element 5 - Swimming and water safety in the National Curriculum

Module 2:
Element 1 - Developing water confidence
Element 2 - Introduction to the strokes
Element 3 - Development of key skills
Element 4 - Developing a school swimming programme
Element 5 - Simultaneous Techniques – Breaststroke and Butterfly
Element 6 - Alternating Techniques – Front Crawl and Back Crawl
