UoPEL (University of Plymouth Enterprise Ltd) is the University's wholly owned trading subsidiary, which exists as a vehicle to conduct commercial consultancy and contract research protecting the University's charitable status.

Members of University staff undertaking work through UoPEL are indemnified for damages and claimant costs and expenses in respect of claims for breach of professional duty.

Any University employee may approach the UoPEL Specialist Advisor team to discuss carrying out work through UoPEL.

Types of work

UoPEL supports the following types of work:

  • commercial consultancy
  • contract research
  • certain tenders and expressions of interest (e.g. Defra, Environment Agency etc.)
  • expert witness
  • guest speakers
  • certain types of course provision.
