There are very many job opportunities for statisticians. Google’s Chief Economist said that “I keep saying the sexy job in the next ten years will be statisticians.“ Statistics is applicable to almost every field, which is why a famous statistician also said "The best thing about being a statistician is that you get to play in everyone's backyard."
The Medical Statistics Group at Peninsula Medical School offer 1-hour statistical clinics, in-person or online, to help staff and students with their statistical needs. We offer support and advice in the following areas:
  • Study design - including sample size and power calculations.
  • Grant and Protocol writing – advise on the data that you plan to collect and how these data will result in meaningful conclusions.
  •  Advice on writing Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs).
  •  Data management – eCRF design, development of data entry protocols and the organisation of databases.
  •  Statistical analysis - advice and assistance in any area of statistics, and interpretation of findings.
  • Statistical reporting - help with the preparation of reports and papers for academic and professional journals.
Our team has a broad range of expertise including but not limited to:

While we welcome all to attend a clinic, we cannot conduct any data analysis on behalf of a student.
In the case where a statistician has contributed significantly to the design or analysis of a study they should be offered co-authorship for their work.
We can also support individuals or groups by providing tailored training on specific topics that might be of interest, for example, running SPSS training sessions that focus on specific topics.
