View over Plymouth Hoe and Sound

Welcome to the University of Plymouth and to our Faculty of Science and Engineering; to the important and exciting work of our Maritime Cyber Threats Research Group, and welcome to your in-at-the-start chance to be a part of the team creating the Cyber-SHIP Lab.

Lifestyle

If you join us, on Friday afternoons, your new colleagues will be talking about the paddle-boarding, kayaking, stunning coastal or moorland walking they’ll be doing later in the day or at the weekend. Not about nightmare commutes. They won’t just be dreaming of a beautiful beach, they’ll be heading for one a short drive away. And because you’ll be living and working astride the beautiful Devon-Cornwall border, you’ll be able to enjoy the same lifestyle and, hopefully, be sensitive when you tell your less fortunate friends about it!

First up, something we really value that may be just a successful application away for you: our University of Plymouth with its fabulous location, lifestyle and work-life balance combination. Just take a look at where you could live and work via the virtual tour

Plymouth is our smart, manageable city with all of the bigger-city facilities you could want, but without many of the bigger-city things you’ll be glad to do without.

Work and colleagues

The Cyber-SHIP Lab project is funded by Research England and some key industry partners and it has great potential to become self-sustaining into the future. It’s led by Principal Investigator, Professor Kevin Jones and Academic Lead, Dr Kimberly Tam. We think they are inspiring and good-humoured and we are sure you will too. Until you have the opportunity to meet them, these two videos will give you a flavour of their enthusiasm and approachability.

Making a difference

Why do we, Research England, and our many industry partners believe the work you will be doing with us is important?

Because 90 percent of everything we’ve used today is likely to have been part of a ship’s cargo. It’s reached us via vital supply chains mediated by information and operational technology that needs just as much, if not more, cyber-threat resilience than the headline-grabbing, front-of-mind technology in the financial and utilities sectors. We come to work, and you could too, to discover, understand and mitigate real, present and future threats to UK and international economic and social wellbeing. It’s exciting work, as part of a great team, in an awesome part of the world! This is why we encourage you to consider joining us.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.
