Undergraduate Open Day offers students the chance to get a flavour of life at University of Plymouth

Designed to give a flavour of what the campus and wider city have to offer, the day will show why Plymouth has recently been named as one of the top 50 modern universities in the world – and the top six in the UK – in the Times Higher 100 Under 50 rankings.

Visitors will be able to meet the lecturers and staff who have given Plymouth its global reputation for academic and teaching excellence and find out about the many clubs and societies, which help Plymouth maintain its status as one of the top universities for student experience.

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the Open Day, and Cassandra Paxton-Denny, Student Recruitment Manager at Plymouth University, said: “From day one, we aim to give our students an outstanding experience, with access to all the information they need to make informed decisions right at their fingertips. The Undergraduate Open Day on June 25 will include tours of our facilities, accommodation, academic-led subject sessions and the information needed to make the choice that is right for them.”

The Open Day, which runs from 9am to 4.30pm, will include a dedicated Student Services Village and interactive activities, including workshops - delivered by current students - designed to prepare people for living on a budget.

Prospective students will also be given tips on writing their personal statements and be able to access dedicated and impartial careers advice from a highly experienced team, who are used to helping students secure placements and jobs at high-profile companies across the world.

The day will also showcase some of the initiatives which continue to earn the University a range of national and international accolades.

In the past year, the commitment to promoting sustainability has seen Plymouth ranked among the national top two in the People & Planet Green League, while our Students’ Union received the highest award possible from the National Union of Students (NUS) in recognition of its green efforts.

And the focus on embedding enterprise across the curriculum saw Plymouth students win the national FLUX competition for the fourth time in seven years, with our Enterprise Society earning the 2014 Enterprise Society of the Year Award from NACUE, the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs.

Cassandra adds: “Through academic and social activities Plymouth offers many opportunities to develop the skills that give our graduates a flying start in their chosen careers and we pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding student experience. We welcome everyone to find out more and be a part of our exciting and enterprising Open Day.”
