English and creative writing outreach

Immerse your students in the study of English and creative writing and give them a great opportunity to experience a university learning environment. Explore topics that will feed your students’ interest in literature, challenge them to sharpen their critical and analytical skills and allow them to practise creative writing.

Do you want your students to experience university-level teaching? Come visit us! Students can attend a university lecture on a topic related to your curriculum. Campus tours can also be accommodated before or after the lecture experience.

School talk: Thinking about English at university?

Book us to visit you. A member of staff and two student mentors will visit your school to give a talk and answer questions on English, higher education, employability, and the opportunities offered by the University of Plymouth's English programme. We can also combine this with a curriculum-specific school workshop if desired.

Experience a University Lecture

Visit us for an authentic university experience. Students will attend a University lecture and a dedicated workshop on a topic related to your curriculum. Our staff research expertise includes: Shakespeare, Austen, Romanticism, the Victorians, war writing, creative writing, and more. Combined English and history events are sometimes available.

Maximum student numbers: 25 per workshop
Restrictions: Subject area options dependent upon staff availability.

Arts Institute Lectures and Workshops

The University’s Arts Institute runs a vibrant series of events, talks, and films each semester. Students are invited to attend for free, providing a taste of the university’s vibrant public-facing events in addition to the opportunity of attending workshops before the lecture.

Young Arts Pass 

Each season University of Plymouth Arts Institute presents free access to selected Arts Institute events for young people aged 18 and under.

Bring along a group of students and experience dance, theatre, talks and exhibitions. Accompanying teachers also get a free ticket.
