"I am in my final year of studying BSc (Hons) Tourism and Hospitality Management. I selected the course because of my combined passion of growing and using local foods and travelling the world. The course fulfilled my desire through the field trips on offer such as travelling to Champagne, Madrid and Amsterdam, including plenty of local trips to hospitality organisations in the South West. I also took advantage of the many extra-curricular activities such as becoming a course representative, a faculty IT student representative and offering to present to potential students at applicant days. I spent my third year on placement at the Civil Aviation Authority in London. This enabled me to apply what I had learnt in the classroom within a working environment.
Prior to starting the course, my previous work experience in the industry helped me to understand the concept of how a service business operated. It helped provide valuable skills and understanding of the theory taught in the classroom.
Alongside this, I built confidence and expanded my networking skills, which benefited my time at university. Plymouth has been a very convenient city to study in. The location of the University within the city centre and nearby living accommodation allowed me to enjoy what Plymouth has to offer. Together with the nearby railway station and access to the sea, location is what I considered to be the best reason to study at Plymouth."
