Matthew Scott - graduate profile

“My four years at Plymouth University were the best four years of my life and, as a result, I am now on one of the best graduate training schemes in the UK and working for a world leading company.

Having left school at 16 to study a B-Tech National Diploma in Marine Engineering in Falmouth, I was able to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Mechanical Design and Manufacture at Plymouth University. Thanks to my degree, I am now on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)* working for the world leader in filtration, separation and purifications systems.

As a KTP Associate I am involved in research and development into new technologies aimed at making cost savings for the company, for example by implementing automated solutions, where possible, to reduce labour-intensive operations, improve product traceability and quality of products. I would recommend a KTP partnership to anyone as the training and career opportunities are amazing. It can really kick-start your career.

I gained a great deal from my experiences at university and not just academically. I really enjoyed every moment and met some amazing people. Moving into halls of residence in my first year was definitely the right decision and I would highly recommend it.”

* Knowledge Transfer Partnerships give qualified graduates the opportunity to work in companies to manage projects central to the development needs of that company.
